Special Film Screening and Community Forum

Olha ai, Olha ai! (Listen Up, Watch Out!) : A film by the participants of the World Beat Project
“Life is a long road. Is it always a perfect road? Is there just one way? How do you feel when you are confronted with different choices and decisions? Have you ever been stuck in some hard circumstances or had troubles or issues that are hard to solve?
This film is an artistic project that explains the different adaptation processes we experience. Those who appear in this film are real people who are new to a different country, language and culture. To be more specific, we share how we feel by showing you our life experiences and troubles, and by discussing language and other barriers. We know this is a challenge, but we are fighting to get what we want.” —– written by a World Beat student
At Vancouver Community College, the World Beat project provides a safe, accepting and supportive space for immigrant youth to explore their life desire, express their voices, strengthen themselves, and continue with their journeys. This film, jointly developed by the youth and the project team, with support from Cinevolution Media Arts Society, gives you a glimpse into the experiences of the young men and women engaged in the project.
After the film screening, a community forum will be held when you can meet the youth and project staff to discuss the film and their experience.
World Beat is funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development, and implemented by a partnership of Vancouver Community College, SUCCESS and YWCA. For more information about the project, please go to www.worldbeat4you.ca.
This special screening and community forum is jointly hosted by Vancouver Community College, SUCCESS, YWCA, and New Asia Film Festival.
