Letter from the City of Richmond
Welcome to the second annual New Asia Film Festival.
The New Asia Film Festival, co-produced by Cinevolution Media Arts Society and the City of Richmond, is a community-based annual event committed to showcasing cutting-edge films and media art works from around the world. Centred on contemporary and progressive themes related to Asian cultures, the Festival provides a rare opportunity for local residents to see films that are not readily available for viewing in Canada and to enjoy cinema as an art form.
As the first international film festival in the City of Richmond, one of the fastest growing and most culturally diverse metropolises in Canada, the Festival’s mission is to promote intercultural understanding between different ethnic groups, to stimulate critical thinking and new means of expression, and to encourage communication between Canada, Asia and the world.
The public demand for more film screenings has been so great that after only one year the New Asia Film Festival has grown into a free monthly Asian film series held every fourth Saturday at the Richmond Cultural Centre.
Thank you for your support of this ambitious and inspiring cultural event and we hope you enjoy the films.
