New Richmond International Film Fest Embraces Community

The former New Asia Film Festival is expanding from an Asia-focused film event into a community celebration of international film and media arts. Audiences will be able to experience full length features in a unique atmosphere such as one of the festival’s new programs: Dim Sum Movie and Cinema Café.

Other festival highlights includes Multimedia Installations and Projections in unusual locations, including a pair of shipping containers on the Richmond Cultural Centre plaza, the Canada Line and the lobby and woods outside of the Cultural Centre. Other special events screenings will also include a pairing of multimedia arts with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. A special outdoor screening will officially open the festival on July 22 with live DJ and musical performances.

Stay tuned! New Festival website and details of the festival program will be launched at the end of May.

New community initiative: My Richmond Story

Grab a camera, let’s tell our stories about Richmond together!

My Richmond Story is a new Community Digital Storytelling project produced by the Cinevolution Media Arts Society and supported through the Richmond Arts Centre and its new Media Lab.

This project is open to both Richmond residents and people living outside of Richmond.

The Project aims at engaging the people in the collection of individual, family and community stories, and the presentation of such stories in digital films and photos. These digital stories will form a crucial part of the collective/public memory and identity of Richmond.

All the digital stories collected during the project period will be screened at the Richmond International Film & Media Arts Festival in July.

How to participate in the project?
